Most New Year’s resolutions are very personal. You might have a New Year’s resolution to quit smoking. Or you want to take tango lessons with your husband. Maybe you just want to finally do a cartwheel. The longest running joke about them is that most people abandon their resolutions within days or even minutes of declaring them. It’s sad, but it’s firmly rooted in real life behavior. So, why don’t we choose resolutions as a group? A group you see every day, five times a week, sometimes weekends. That’s right – your family of coworkers! Here are ten resolutions your office can choose as a team!
Hold Weekly Company Meetings
Easy, you already see each other every week. Might as well make it productive. This one is a set-it-and-forget-it resolution – once you establish a weekly reminder email, your work here is done. Now everyone just has to actually show up…
Increase Social Media Presence
Normally, your resolution is to stay off of social media. But 2018 has shown us all that the world’s social networks are in flux. Vine is dead. Google + is dying off. Facebook is experiencing a serious change in its user base. ‘Tis the season to seek out the new Twitter and get posting.
Do More Stuff Together
Work can be a drag, and some employees just want to head home when the clock strikes five. No way, Jose! We’re going to T.G.I. Fridays! Make a point to do one steam-releasing or team-building activity with your troops once a month. As long as you keep it light, your employees will be asking when the next one is!
Let’s Get Fit!
Every office has people with different body shapes. But exercise and healthy foods are good for everyone. Start bringing in fresh fruit and veggies every week. Start a rotation of who will bring in the goodies. You want to keep them healthy but tasty. And, while you’re at it, a yoga session before work and a group walk during lunch couldn’t hurt.
Get Ready for Spring Cleaning
Here’s one as easy as the weekly meetings, and you can put it off until at least April! Every office needs a little tidying. For some businesses, a nightly cleaning service helps with this. But it can be great fun to clean out old paperwork and worn supplies once a year together. Makes room for new stuff. Plus, you can put on some tunes while cleaning.
Organizing Digital Content
Unlike spring cleaning or the weekly meeting, this requires work all year. Keeping your digital files well-ordered is a necessary chore. You can even combine this with a spring cleaning resolution and digitize any old archives. To make these tasks either, content management solutions enable easy indexing and retrieval.
We Should All Color Coordinate
Everyone has a best friend at the office. Maybe your other coworkers are just a bunch of fuddy-duddies. You want to limit your resolution to you and your office BFF only. Why not something fun then? You two can coordinate outfits, hats, even folders, or ink colors. Consider inviting one or two curious coworkers along for this wild ride as well!
Do More Family Stuff Together
Everyone knows about Bring Your Daughter to Work Day. How about bringing your son? Your spouse? How about bringing your dog! Bring Your Whole Family to Work Day. This fosters a friendly, comfortable atmosphere at work and allows families to get to know one another in person.
Read More Books
I’ve been trying to finish a particular book for five years now, but it’s hard to self-motivate. Slow readers and fast readers alike need a book club. It speeds up the slow pokes and gives the speed readers a chance to smell the roses. You and your coworkers can resolve to meet monthly about a new title you’ve all read.
You Can All Finally Make That Movie Together
Remember?! You remember, right!? That action movie we all agreed to make!? Creative projects can lead to mental blocks. But an entire production crew made up of coworkers you know and love will get the creative juices flowing. Together, you can make something awesome! Like a secret agent movie about saving a hockey game. Or a giant mural. Or a brand new product!
